Synthetic lubricants bring energy savings and reduced maintenance shutdowns at a PVC manufacturing plant.
Problem
Hydro Polymers has traditionally used mineral oils for all their lubrication needs. While these were effective, they were prone to migrate and seep from the seals, particularly when operating at consistently high temperatures. The plant needed to eliminate risk of failure, operating 24 hours per day for 360 days per year.
Solution
Synthetic lubricants were applied to the critical areas of the plant, at greatest risk of failure and when failure would have the most significant impact on the overall plant operation.
Result
By applying metering devices, energy savings of between 4.8% and 8.7% resulted. Synthetic lubricants have now condensed essential maintenance periods to just 10 for the compounding plant and 4 for the resin plants, resulting in a saving of tens of thousands of Euros through elimination of unnecessary stoppages.
